PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK (Oct. 18-25)

VOLLEYBALL

Breland Prochaska, libero (Fennimore, sr.) – was all over the court defensively registering a match-high 44 digs to help Fennimore hold off visiting Lancaster 25-17, 25-19, 22-25, 23-25, 16-14 in last Thursday’s WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal. Two nights later Prochaska was nearly as good digging up 30 attacks, but her gritty effort was enough to help the Golden Eagles get past top-seeded Wisconsin Heights.

Traci Kirschbaum, middle hitter (River Ridge, sr.) – floored 47 kills and had 20 blocks in three matches last week to lead the Timberwolves to their first WIAA Division 4 regional title since 2007. Kirschbaum had 16 kills and six blocks in Ridge’s 25-15, 16-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-11 comeback win over Potosi in Saturday’s regional final at River Ridge High School. On Thursday she had 19 kills and seven blocks in a sweep of Riverdale.

Charis Luedtke, middle hitter (Hillsboro, sr.) – powered the host Tigers (27-1) to a Division 4 regional title with 15 kills and four aces in an easy 25-14, 25-20, 25-11 victory over Royall on Saturday night. She had 16 kills and seven blocks in a 25-17, 25-12, 25-16 sweep of Kickapoo on Thursday. The once beaten Tigers will face Cochrane-Fountain City in Thursday night’s WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal.

Kelly Lynch, middle hitter (Richland Center, sr.) - had 16 kills in each regional win over Wisconsin Dells and River Valley last week. Lynch's big night against SWC rival River Valley helpd the Hornets sweep the Blackhawks 30-28, 26-24, 25-21 in Saturday night's WIAA regional final.

 

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Adam Niehaus (Platteville, sr.) - placed seventh overall in 16 minutes and 58 seconds at Saturday’s WIAA Division 2 Monroe Sectional Meet to earn an individual state berth in his first year on the Platteville cross country team.

Brandon Doll (Lancaster, jr.) - Doll finished seventh in 17:36 at the WIAA Division 3 Boscobel sectional to earn his first trip to state.

 

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Kendra Sigg (Pecatonica/Argyle, jr.) – finished fifth overall with a time of 16:13 at Saturday’s WIAA Division 3 Boscobel Sectional meet to earn an individual state berth.

Brooke Elliott (Lancaster, fr.) – placed seventh at the D3 Boscobel Sectional to earn a trip to state.

 

GIRLS SWIMMING

200-yard freestyle relay (Platteville/Lancaster, jr.) – the quartet of Claire Friederick, Maddie Kieler, Melanie Schaefer and Sarah Loring combined to win the event in a time of 1:44.74 at Saturdays’ 27th annual Platteville/Lancaster Girls Swimming Invitational and help the Hillmen hold off Sauk Prairie for the program’s first top-two finish in the 27 years of its own invite.
