Richland Center varsity boys soccer team

NOTE: Each week, the sports editors of swews4u.com; A.J. Gates (Grant County Herald Independent), Jason Nihles (Platteville Journal), Tom "Gunner" Gunnell (Republican Journal) and Erik Olson (The Richland Observer) will vote on the top prep teams of the week. WEEK 8's TEAMS OF THE WEEK (Oct. 4-11)

Belmont Football (Offense) – The Braves rolled up 492 yards of offense in a 56-6 victory over Shullsburg in a must-win game on Friday night. Belmont averaged over 10 yards a carry on the ground as the rolled up 463 rushing yards on 46 carries and scored eight rushing TDs in the win, which moved them one step closer to securing a WIAA playoff berth. Belmont, which now 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the Six Rivers Conference, must win this Friday night’s regular season finale at winless River Ridge (0-8, 0-7 SRC) to become playoff eligible.

Black Hawk Volleyball – opened Homecoming week by knocking off Six Rivers East leading Monticello, 30-28, 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, at home this past Tuesday. The Ponies came into the night unbeaten this season in conference play. The Warriors also swept Pecatonica, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18, on the road to finished 2-0 on the week and improved 6-3 in league play.

Richland Center Boys’ Soccer – The Hornets’ blanked Dodgeville/Minerel Point 1-0 last Thursday to claim their first Southwest Wisconsin Conference boys’ soccer title in six years. Richland Center, which finished the season 10-8-1 overall after Tuesday’s first-round playoff loss to Lodi, finished 9-2-1 in conference play just edging out the Dodgers (9-3). The Hornets last won the conference title in 2005, the first year of the SWC boys’ soccer conference.
