Lancaster Football takes down unbeaten Nekoosa

WEEK 4's TEAMS OF THE WEEK -

Lancaster Football (Offense)  - The Lancaster offense was dominating over Nekoosa last Friday night. Three different backs finished with nearly 100 yards each, on a combined 42 carries. Junior fullback Trae Mezera led the way with 130 yards and two TDs on 10 carries, followed by senior quarterback Justin Hore with 108 yards rushing and one score on 21 carries. Junior halfback Troy Baker finished with 93 yards and two TDs on 11 carries, and also caught three passes for 147 yards and two more scores. The Arrows finished the game with 366 total yards rushing against Nekoosa, the second-ranked team in Division 4.

Platteville Volleyball –  Coach Yvette Statz's Hillmen went 5-0-1 in pool play, then beat host Sparta in the semifinals and won a championship rematch with Lodi, whom Platteville split with earlier in the day, to win the 7-team Sparta Invitational last Saturday. It was Platteville's first in-season tournament championship since the Hillmen won the Iowa-Grant Invite and the West Salem Invitational in 2005. Junior Julia Lawinger amassed a team-high 69 kills, and seven blocks in eight matches. Senior Tess Stecklein also had a fine all-around day with 32 kills, 44 digs, seven aces and five blocks. Platteville (15-5-2) also swept Prairie du Chien on Thursday to improve to 2-0 in SWC play.

Cuba City Football - The Cubans were the last team in the state to be scored upon after yielding a fourth-quarter touchdown in a 54-6 win over Fennimore. Running back Brandon Slaats ran for 153 yards and three TDs in the win over Fennimore. Coach Guy Kopp's Cubans are 4-0 on the season and ranked #9 in the state in Division 5 by Wissports.net heading into Friday’s SWAL matchup at Riverdals. They have outscored their opponents 161-6 this season.
