McPhail earns spot on USA Pan Am Games shooting team

    COLORADO SPRINGS – Darlington native Michael McPhail has been selected to represent the USA as a member of the USA Shooting team at the 2011 Pan American Games to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, from Oct. 14-23.
    McPhail, a Staff Sergeant with the elite U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit based out of Fort Benning, Ga., will be a member of the USA Rifle Team and will compete in the men’s 50-meter three position and men’s 50-meter prone events.
    The Pan Am Games are held every four years prior to the Summer Olympic Games and feature competition in a variety of sports between athletes from the nations of the Americas.
    McPhail, the son of Dennis and Joyce McPhail of Darlington, lives in Phoenix City, Ala., with his wife, Kari, who is a graduate of Black Hawk High School.
    After graduating from Darlington High School in 2000, McPhail attended UW-Oshkosh briefly before enlisting in the Army and joining the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.
