SENECA - The condensed volleyball-in-spring season is certainly a whirlwind…just ask Seneca coach Jessica Dworschack.

It’s been a bit of a roller coaster to date as Seneca plays teams for the Scenic Bluffs Conference with mixed results. The most recent match against Necedah definitely broke their way.

Seneca defeated Necedah in four games 25-9, 25-12, 25-27 and 25-18. Some of the seniors really stepped forward in this one.

Senior setter Nicky Trautsch had 37 assists, 13 digs, five aces and three kills.

Senior outside hitter Anya Aspenson had 11 digs, 14 kills and one ace.

Senior middle hitter Ava Payne recorded two digs, four kills, five  aces and two blocks

Senior right side hitterDelaney Boland had two digs, five kills and one block.

Then there were the sophomores, who also shined.

Outside hitter Kendra Chambers had two digs, 12 kills, six aces and was 22/22 serving.

Libero Grace Check 19 digs and two aces.

Middle hitter Aubrey Wallin had three kills and three digs.

Utility player Lindsey Sime had seven digs and two aces

Defensive specialist Bridget Hagensick had four digs.

“it was a much better serve receive and hitting percentage for our team,” coach Dworschack said later. “We did a much better job of moving the ball around.”

Earlier in the week, thing weren’t going so well for the Seneca team as the roller coaster hit a dip.

On Tuesday, March 9 Seneca lost to Wonewoc-Center in three games; 6-25, 12-25 and 19-25.

On Tuesday, March 2 Seneca lost a tough opening day match at home to Bangor in four games; 23-25, 19-25, 25-20 and 18-25.

“Overall, our girls played well,” Coach Jessica Dworschack said of the first match. “We had some great setups on offense and our defense was super scrappy. We struggled with serving, and Bangor had excellent blockers who gave us a hard time.

“We missed seven serves in our first set and lost that set by two points,” the coach noted. “If we would have made our serves that first set, I think the game could have ended differently.”
