    BELMONT – The Belmont boys’ basketball team continues to strive for their first victory, but their Six Rivers West opponents are not taking easy on the young Braves.
    Potosi beat up on Belmont, 75-35, in a league affair at PHS on Tuesday, Dec. 6, while the visiting Highland Cardinals roughed up the Braves, 63-32, at home on Friday, Dec. 9, to drop them to 0-2 in SRW play and 0-5 overall on the season.
    Sophomore Colin Austin led the Braves with 14 points against the Chieftains on Tuesday night, and he tallied a team-high 15 points with six rebounds against the Cardinals on Friday.
    Senior Riely Cutler added six points against Potosi, while freshman Brady Wedig netted five points and junior Jake Amenda chipped in with four points.
    Alex Udelhofen scored 19 points and Nic Spriggs contributed 14 for the Chieftains (2-1, 1-1).
    Junior Jake Wedig pulled down eight rebounds and added an assist against Highland, while freshman Luke Kamps scored four points for the Braves.
    Derek Miller led three Cardinals in double figures with a game-high 20 points. JR Linscheid dropped in 14 and Spencer Linscheid followed with 11 for Highland (3-2, 2-0).
    Belmont has upcoming SRW games at home against Shullsburg on Thursday, Dec. 15, and at River Ridge on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
