With losses to Cassville and Highland last week, the Benton varsity volleyball team is off to an 0-2 start in the Six Rivers West conference standings.
Coach Russ Hamm's squad hosted Cassville last Tuesday evening, and after winning the first game by a score of 25-21, the Zephyrs lost the next three, 25-15, 25-10 and 25-17.
The following Thursday, Benton traveled to Highland to take on the defending state champion Cardinals.
After losing the first two games by scores of 25-9 and 25-2, the Zephyrs fought hard in the third before losing 25-22.
Sophomore middle hitter Sarah Redfearn led Benton with three kills, while senior Brittany Lyne added a team-high two blocks.
Dishing out eight assists to her hitter was junior setter Alyssa Leeser.
This Thursday evening the Zephyrs will be at River Ridge (2-0), then will host Shullsburg next Tuesday, Sept. 13.
