Co-op squad still searching for first leauge win

While non-conference victories haven’t been as difficult to come by, the Cassville-River Ridge varsity softball team has yet to collect a win in Six Rivers West conference play.

The co-op team suffered a 5-2 loss to host Highland last Thursday night, and most recently fell to visiting Belmont, 16-1, this past Monday evening.

At Highland, coach Jacob Bernetzke’s squad had six hits compared to their opponent’s five, but Cassville-River Ridge committed two errors to Highland’s none.

Rachel Ackerman was the team’s top performer at the plate with one hit, but drove in the team’s only two RBIs in the game.

Doubles were hit by Emily Koch, Tesha Peer and Sarah Breuer.

Peer took the loss in the pitching circle, giving up five runs, two earned, off five hits, while striking out six batters and walking three.

This past Monday evening against visiting Belmont (2-0, SRW, 6-0), the co-op team managed just two hits in five innings, scoring one run in the bottom of the second inning.

Krystal Phillips was in the pitching circle for 4.1 innings, in which time she gave up 16 runs, 14 of which were earned, off 12 hits. She struck out one batter and walked eight before being replaced in the fifth inning by Sabrina White.

Kalyn Kamps was given the win for Belmont, allowing one unearned run of two hits, while striking out seven batters and walking two.

In a non-conference contest against visiting De Soto last Friday evening, Cassville-River Ridge suffered a 6-1 loss after being out-hit 8-1.

In six innings of duty, Peer gave up four runs, one earned, off six hits, while striking out three batters and walking one.

Sabrina White pitched the final inning, giving up two earned runs off two hits and one walk.

Last Saturday the co-op squad hosted a four-team tournament with Southwestern, Pecatonica and Seneca.

The host team first knocked off Southwestern by a score of 11-6, as Emily Koch went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and one run scored.

Alex Gates was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored, while Krystal Phillips was 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.

Phillips was given the win in the pitching circle after allowing six runs, two earned, off 12 hits. She struck out five batters and walked three.

In the championship game, Pecatonica collected the crown with a 6-1 victory over Cassville-River Ridge.

Krystal Phillips and Rachel Ackerman each went 2-for-3 at the plate, accounting for four of their team’s six hits.

While was given the loss after allowing six runs, four earned, off 11 hits. She struck out two batters and walked one.

Following this past Tuesday night’s non-conference contest against visiting Fennimore, the co-op team will travel to Boscobel on Friday, then host Monticello in a double header on Saturday before hosting Potosi next Monday.
