SOUTH WAYNE – The Black Hawk Warriors baseball team opened the season against three of the top teams in the Six Rivers Conference, and unfortunately for them, those foes lived up to their preseason hype.
    The Warriors (0-4 overall, 0-3 SRC) could only muster two runs and three hits over their first four games after getting shutout in five-inning losses to Six Rivers East favorites Barneveld, 19-0 at home of Monday, April 11, and Pecatonica, 17-0 at home on Monday, April 18; and dropping a Six Rivers crossover doubleheader to defending West champion Highland, 8-1 and 22-1 at HHS on Saturday, April 16.
    Barneveld’s Trevor Siegenthaler no-hit the Warriors in their opener, while Pec’s A.J. Hendrickson tossed four innings of no-hit ball and Highland’s Nate Michek and Drew Hennessey each threw a one-hitter.
    Reesan Ruch and Preston Bevins each singled against the Cardinals, and Noah Metz singled for the Warriors against Pec. Jason Treuthardt and Brody Milz each scored runs.
     In a change this season, the first game of the Six Rivers crossover doubleheaders between the East and West will count towards the conference standings, while the second game will be counted as a non-conference game.
    Black Hawk hosts Potosi in a Six Rivers doubleheader on Friday, April 22, starting at 4:30 p.m., and the Warriors have Six Rivers East games at Argyle on Monday, April 25, and at home against Monticello on Tuesday, April 26, both beginning at 5 p.m.
