POTOSI — Potosi raced out to a monster first half lead and cruised to an easy 81–22 victory over visiting Cassville last Thursday night to clinch a share of the Six Rivers West title, the program’s first since 2012–13.

It was coach Brad Bierman’s third conference title in his seven years as the Potosi girls’ head coach.

The Chieftains finished the regular season 16–4 overall and 12–2 in the SRW to share this year’s conference title with Shullsburg (17–8, 10–2).

Potosi closed the regular season on a six-game winning streak after losing three of four games and falling out of first place with a conference loss to visiting River Ridge on Jan. 23.

But the Chieftains were given new life in the race for the conference crown when the same Timberwolves (18–4, 9–3) defeated Shullsburg 48–45 on Feb. 1.

Potosi took full advantage of its second chance with three straight conference blowouts to finish league play on a high note.

The Chieftains hammered Benton 82–40 on Feb. 1 and won at Highland 62–36 on Feb. 6 before making quick work of the visiting Comets last Thursday.

Senior Abby Kaiser scored a game-high 24 points to go along with six rebounds, six steals and four assists to lead the victors.

Junior Amber Udelhoven added 15 points, on a perfect 6 for 6 from the field, and two steals.

Senior Hannah Udelhoven finished with 13 points, three rebounds and three steals.

All 15 Potosi players saw significant playing time and 11 different Chieftains scored in the game.

Brittany Horner (seven points), Justice Udelhofen (five), Sophomore Chloe Groom (four), Anna Kruser (three), Shae Siegert (two), Toni Pluemer (two) and Brooklyn Friederick (two) rounded out Potosi’s scoring.

Anna Kartman scored a team-high nine points to lead the Comets, who finished the regular season (3–18, 1–11).

Potosi will host 15th-seeded De Soto (1–19) in a regional quarterfinal tonight after Tuesday’s postponement and with a win will host either No. 7 Kickapoo (14–7) or No. 10 Iowa–Grant (5–17) in a regional semifinal Friday night at 7 p.m.
