BOSCOBEL - The Bulldog volleyball season got underway with a two-day tournament in Onalaska held at the Omni Center August 28 and 29.  The girls played five matches each day and although they did not win, the team grew increasingly competitive through the experience.

This year’s team is in a rebuilding mode as six players graduated from last year’s squad.  Over the course of the two-day event, the Bulldogs tried various combinations on the court and worked on a variety of offensive sets and defensive alignments.

According to third-year head coach Cas Kirschbaum, the experience was also a team building exercise as the team spent the night together, ate meals together, and spent leisure time together away from the court.  Of their play on the court,

“The team and coaches had an opportunity see what things seemed to work well, and those things that did not,”  Kirschbaum said.

The experience of the tournament provided valuable information for player and team evaluation as the team heads toward conference competition.  Kirschbaum and her players felt that the team made progress as it advanced through the tournament and feel good about the team as it moves forward.

The current varsity roster consists of seniors Maggie Kafar, Treena Knowles, Pearl Scallon, Rebecca Yahn, and Hannah Zieroth, juniors Shelby Bedward, Sam Brown, Emma Creasey, Remington King, and Hannah Smith, and sophomores Sarah Knowles and Tessa Riley.

Bulldog volleyball is in the middle of busy week as they hosted a freshman tournament Tuesday evening, and will host a Junior Varsity tournament on Thursday, Sept. 5, starting at 4:30 at the high school.  The Varsity will finish the week’s action on Saturday, Sept. 7, as they host an eight-team invitational tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the high school.  Those area schools competing on Saturday include Bangor, Brookwood, Ithaca, La Farge, Lancaster, River Valley, and Wauzeka-Steuben.
