Chieftain wrestlers have great week

MUSCODA - The Riverdale Chieftain wrestling team put in a solid weekend defeating honorable mention ranked Darlington/Black Hawk, 39-30, and going 4-1 Saturday at the Westby Duals to finish in second place.

Friday night the wrestlers made the long trip to Black Hawk to wrestle the Darlington/Black Hawk co-op. The boys won nine of the twelve matches; and wrestled to come away with a 39-30 conference victory. 

Kenny Elliott got the match started with a 4-3 win and Caleb Johnson followed with a 14 second pin to take a 9-0 lead. Terry Hrubes wrestled next. He scored the opening takedown, but was reversed and pinned at 220 pounds. Garret Wilmot wrestled an aggressive heavyweight match, almost scoring a number of takedowns on the edge of the mat in regulation. The match headed to overtime tied, 1-1, with Garrett getting the winning takedown.
