GALENA – Darlington junior Brogen Evenstad carded a pair of top 12 rounds to lead the Redbirds boys’ golf team at the first two SWAL Meets of the season.
    Evenstad finished in a tie for fifth-place with a seven-over 42 in the SWAL opener hosted by Southwestern at the Galena Public Golf Course on Thursday, April 20, and he followed with a 12-place round of 49 on a windy afternoon at Cuba City’s Cole Acres Country Club on Monday, April 24.
    The Redbirds finished in sixth-place as a team at both meets, carding a team score of 203 at Galena last Thursday, and finishing with a score of 210 at Cole Acres on Monday.
    Junior Seth Johnson shot at 51 for the Redbirds at Thursday’s meet, and scored a 54 at Monday’s match, while sophomore Cole Roelli shot a 57 and 52, respectively, for the ‘Birds, and freshman Cody Crist carded rounds of 53 and 55 to round out the team scoring for Darlington.
    Mineral Point came in first at the Southwestern Meet by 13 strokes after finishing with a score of 172. Barneveld was second at 185 and Argyle/Pecatonica was third at 194.
    The Pointers added another first-place finish at the Cuba City Meet on Monday after carding a 184 to come in four strokes ahead of runner-up Argyle/Pecatonica at 188. The host Cubans placed third at 197.
    Mineral Point’s Kalen Pilling, Iowa-Grant’s Brady Peat, Barneveld’s Seth Adelman and Arg/Pec’s Matt Amorose shared medalist honors at Thursday’s meet with six-over rounds of 41.
    Peat and Amorose shared top honors again on Monday after firing five-over 41s for their teams.
    The Redbirds will host a SWAL meet at the Darlington Country Club on Friday, April 28, starting at 4 p.m. The ‘Birds will compete at the River Valley Invitational at the Spring Green Municipal Golf Course on Saturday, April 29, beginning at 9 a.m.; and they will head to the Deer Valley Golf Course for the Barneveld SWAL Meet on Monday, May 1, at 4 p.m.
