Darlington opens new season on the course

BARNEVELD – Darlington opened the 2019 prep boys’ golf season by finishing seventh at the first SWAL Meet held at Barneveld’s Deer Valley Golf Course on Monday, April 13.

Battling stiff winds and cool temperatures, the Redbirds carded a team score of 284 to pull in last at the seven-team meet. Defending champion Mineral Point opened with a score of 176 to place first by seven strokes ahead of runner-up Argyle/Pecatonica at 183.

MP’s Simon Mitchell fired a two-over 38 to claim medalist honors at the meet. A/P’s Noah Krahenbuhl was second with a five-over 41.

Cole Roelli paced the Redbirds with a round of 56. He was followed in by Michael Kendall with a 65 and Ethan Schuchart with a 75, while Brycen Mullen completed the team scoring with an 88.

At Lancaster, on Saturday, April 13, Cody Crist carded a round of 95 to lead the Redbirds to a seventh-place finish at the 10-team Lancaster Invitational.

Roelli scored a 109 for the ‘Birds with Atticus Stauffacher coming in at 125 and Michael Kendall following with a 126.

Next up, Darlington will compete at the Fennimore SWAL meet at Hickory Grove Golf Course on Monday, April 22, starting at 4 p.m.
