CUBA CITY — One championship streak ended while another began as the Darlington Redbirds cross country team earned a Southwest Wisconsin Activities League team title for the 12th consecutive year.

The Lady Redbirds placed four runners among the top 15 to snare the girls’ team title ahead of defending champion Boscobel at the 2019 SWAL Meet held at Cole Acres Country Club on Thursday, Oct. 17. The #8-ranked Redbirds scored 55 points to claim the title ahead of the #2-ranked Bulldogs with 61 points and #13-ranked Albany Comets with 63 points.

While the Lady Redbirds were starting up a new title streak, Darlington’s 11-year run as SWAL champions came to an end as the Redbird boys’ team turned in a third-place performance in the boys’ meet.

Second-ranked Boscobel placed three runners in the top 10 and all five of their team scorers in the top 12 to sprint away with the boys’ title with 38 points. Tenth-ranked Iowa-Grant pulled in second with 70 points, followed by the #7-ranked Redbirds with 86 points.
