FENNIMORE — Sixth-ranked Fennimore’s dominating 57–18 victory over a young Iowa–Grant/Highland team in front of a packed Parents’ Night crowd, served as warning shot to perennial SWAL-champion Mineral Point (currently ranked eighth in Division 3).

     The Golden Eagles (3–0 in SWAL duals) will get its shot at the reigning champion Pointers (4–0 SWAL) when the league leaders square of at FHS on Friday, Jan. 30.

     Led by a blossoming group of youngsters and the infusion of three standout freshmen and a pair of state-qualifying transfers, Fennimore (3–0) dominated Friday’s SWAL dual from beginning to end.

     Justin Tollefson scored a 10–2 major decision over I–G senior Jordan Jenks at 126 pounds to begin the evening. Fennimore’s Hunter Wardell pinned freshman Clayton Kite at 132, Alex Cleven was a 7–0 winner over Trenton Arndt at 138, and freshman Trevor Neuroth pinned Iowa–Grant sophomore Travis Arndt at 145.

     Iowa–Grant freshman Brady Peat stopped the bleeding with a second-period pin of Justin Mulrooney at 152 pounds, and senior standout Luke Nowak pinned Fennimore’s Brandon Ashmore at 170 to pull the Panthers withing 25–12.

     But I–G surrendered forfeits to heavyweight Deven O’Brien (30–3) and defending state champion Riley Lull (30–1) at 113 and only won one more match the rest of the night — senior Kyle Soderstrom’s pin of Dalton Miles at 195 pounds.

     On Saturday, the Iowa–Grant/Highland co-op crowned four champions, scored 353 points and tied for second place out of 16 teams at the Weston/Ithaca Invitational.

     Sophomore Sawyer Sarbacker (106 pounds), freshman Max Maylor (120), Nowak (170) and Soderstrom (220) each went 5–0 to win individual titles.

     The Panthers (6–3, 3–1 SWAL) will return to action Friday at Mineral Point.
