Wildcats win Mayville Tournament

Boscobel and Riverdale were no match for the Southwestern varsity volleyball team last week, as the Wildcats easily swept both opponents to improve their Southwest Wisconsin Activities League record to 5-0.

   Coach Jane Wills' squad first matched up against visiting Boscobel last Tuesday night, winning in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-10 and 25-5.

   Katelyn Hoppman finished the night with a team-high 15 kills and seven digs, while Alyssa Iserman added 10 kills in the win. Molly Wubben led the team in ace serves (6) and assists (25).

   The following Thursday night, Southwestern traveled to Muscoda to take on Riverdale, whom they defeated in three straight sets, 25-6, 25-15 and 25-11.

   In that match, Hoppman finished with 19 kills, while Iserman added six to go along with five digs.
Katie Droeszler was the team's leader in digs with six, while Rachael Haugen had four ace serves and Wubben dished out 21 assists.

   This past Saturday, Southwestern participated in the Mayville Invite, where they finished first with an unbeaten record of 6-0. After going 4-0 in pool play, the Wildcats defeated host Mayville in first-round tournament action, then claimed the championship title with a 2-0 win over Kiel.

   On the day, Hoppman had 51 total kills, 13 blocks and 15 ace serves, while Iserman had 19 kills, 21 digs and a team-high 17 aces. Wubben dished out a total of 76 assists, while Droeszler finished with a team-high 34 digs.

   Following this past Tuesday night's match at Fennimore, the Wildcats (9-0, 5-0) will host Mineral Point on Thursday.
