Arrows win D3 title at Bi-State Classic

With 246.5 total points, the Lancaster varsity wrestling team won the Division 3 team title at this year's Bi-State Classic held in La Crosse on Dec. 28-29. LA CROSSE - With 246.5 total points, the Lancaster varsity wrestling team won the division 3 team title at this year’s Bi-State Classic held in La Crosse last Friday and Saturday.

Of the combined 53 teams in all three divisions, the Flying Arrows finished third, as the D1 champions from Wausau-West scored 321.5 points, and the D2 champions from Luxemburg-Casco scored 290.5.

Individually, the Flying Arrows had three wrestlers in their respective championship matches, all three finishing second.

At 120 pounds, sophomore Cole Martin went 5-1 in the tournament, and currently has a season record of 23-3.

Martin’s only loss came in the championship match, where Jens Lantz (15-0) of Ellsworth collected a 14-3 major decision.

At 126 pounds, Lancaster junior Kyle Mezera also went 5-1 in the tournament, and now has a season record of 22-4.

Mezera lost his championship match to Colin Baine (23-0) of Wausau West, by a score of 12-1.

At 160 pounds, Lancaster junior Ethan Soderstrom went 5-1 on the day with two pins and three decisions. Soderstrom is now 23-3 on the season.

In his championship match, Dominic Flock (16-1) of Cashton pulled out a 4-2 decision over Lancaster’s returning state champion.

Other place winners for Lancaster included 145-pound junior Trenton Cornell (23-4) who finished fifth; 113-pound freshman Dustin Reynolds (16-10) who was sixth; 132-pound junior Dan Rice (8-5) who was seventh, and 182-pound sophomore David Chadd (19-5) who was 10th.
