Pole vaulters lead Platteville contingent to state
DSC 0301
Platteville junior Ben Bahr cleared 133 at Thursdays Division 2 Boscobel Sectional to finish third and earn a trip to this weeks WIAA State Championships.

BOSCOBEL — With a number of impressive performances at Thursday’s WIAA Division 2 Boscobel sectional the Platteville track team  qualified for this week’s state track meet in one relay and five individual events, including two in the pole vault.
The top four finishers at last week’s sectional qualified for the state meet, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of UW–La Crosse.
Sophomore Allie Serres qualified for state in both the 100-meter dash and the long jump, placing fourth in both events.
She ran the 100 in 13.27 and jumped 16 feet, 2 inches in the long jump.
Junior Danielle Jentz cleared personal-best 10-feet and finished third in the girls’ pole vault on a jumps tie-breaker.
Fellow junior pole vault Ben Bahr also set a new PR, clearing 13–3 and finished third giving the Hillmen a state pole vaulter in both the boys’ and girls’ state competition.
Bahr will compete in the boys’ D2 competition Friday morning beginning at 9:45 a.m.
Jentz will compete in Saturday’s D2 girls’ competition. D3 begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by D2.
Serres, Jentz and Bahr will all be making their first trip to the state track meet.
Junior John Skubal placed third in the discus with a toss of 143–3 to earn his first trip to state.
The Platteville boys’ 4x100 relay team of Trevor Oaks, Alvaro Plaza, Alex Niehaus and Ben Kroll placed fourth in 44.16 seconds to qualify for state.
Both Niehaus and Kroll ran at state a year ago in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Plaza, a foreign exchange student from Spain, and Oaks, a senior, will both be making their state meet debut.
Junior Cullen Bryla ran the fourth fastest 800 in school history at 1:57.5, but he just missed out on state placing fifth at sectionals.
