RICHLAND CENTER — After a pair of dominating back-to-back victories to open Southwest Wisconsin Conference play Tuesday and Thursday, the Platteville Hillmen kept on rolling at Saturday’s Richland Center Invitational.
The Hillmen posted five straight sweeps, eventually winning the 10-team tournament with a 25–16, 25–14 victory over Royall in the crossover championship match.
Platteville (18–1, ranked 8th in Division 2) swept Reedsburg, Black Hawk, Hillsboro and Lodi earlier in the day to
win its pool.
Senior Izzy Carroll (32 kills, 4 blocks, 4 aces, 53 digs) and junior Alayna Digman (32 kills, 7 aces, 4 blocks) led the Hillmen at Richland Center.
Coach Danielle Duerst’s club opened SWC play with a commanding 25–16, 25–20, 25–16 victory over 2018 SWC runner-up River Valley (8–6, 1–1 SWC) last Tuesday at PHS. Digman had 11 kills, three blocks and two aces.
Two nights later, the Hillmen swept visiting Lancaster (8–12, 0–2) 25–13, 25–14, 25–15. Digman finished with nine kills and four blocks, and junior Maddie Cooley added eight kills and three blocks.
"We have our good times and our bad," said Platteville head coach Danielle Duerst. "We need to play to our potential every game no matter who is on the other side of the court. We are taking it one game at a time."
Platteville returned to Richland Center Tuesday night for an SWC league match and will now host Prairie du Chien Thursday night. They will travel to Dodgeville on Tuesday.
