The Richland Center Hornets notched their fifth straight SWC volleyball this season Tuesday night at Prairie du Chien.
The Hornets swept the Blackhawks, 3-0. Coach Laura Selgeby’s Hornets had little trouble as they won, 25-9, 25-7, 25-15.
Selgeby said her team played but didn’t think Prairie du Chien played as well as they can.
Kelley Lynch delivered 14 kills, and Mikayla Nigl added seven kills and two block kills. Meanwhile, Hannah Crary had 13 digs and Sierra Gaffney eight. Kelsey Collins produced 12 assists and Brooklyn Ewing had seven along with five digs.
Selgeby said the Hornets lost junior Rebecca Luxton with an ankle injury in pre-game warm-ups.
The Hornets’ next action will come Thursday when they travel to Lancaster for a return match with the Flying Arrows. Since it’s homecoming week at Lancaster, the volleyball match is slated to start at 5 p.m. All three teams ( varsity, varsity reserve and varsity reserve JVs) will start at the same time in different gyms. The Hornets edged the Arrows earlier in the season.
Currently, that win is the difference in the SWC standings between the two teams which shared the title a year ago.
As a result, a win for the Hornets would give the Hornets a two-match lead while a loss would create a tie.
Coach Selgeby’s Hornets will also face a key match against River Valley here in the RCHS fieldhouse on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
The Hornets were 3-1 winners over River Valley at Spring Green earlier in the season.
