Trojan girls basketball battles hard, with heart
Basketball generic two

NORTH CRAWFORD - In their opening game at River Valley, and then again versus Boscobel, the North Crawford girls basketball team showed a fresh spark. Although both contests resulted in losses, many spectators remarked at the high level of effort and determination by the young squad.

Over these first two games combined, the Trojans were led in scoring by junior guard Angie Herfel and sophomore guard Sarah Hanson, who each had 15 points. Kloee Chamberlain, a junior four-sport athlete, nabbed 11 rebounds in the same span, and senior captain Emily Hanson provided three blocked shots.

The challenging schedule continued this past Tuesday, December 3 as the Trojans traveled to face an aggressive Wauzeka-Steuben team led by sophomore Maddy Reichman, who would finish the game with 19 points. When the final horn sounded, this scoring would match North Crawford’s output as the Trojans fell to 0-1 in conference play with a 56-19 defeat. The Hornets shot the ball extremely well, and are among the early favorites to compete for a Ridge and Valley title this year.

On the road once again and looking to rebound strong, the Trojans brought a tenacious mindset to LaFarge on Friday, December 6. After numerous rallies drew the Trojans back within striking distance, the Wildcats would pull away in the second half with sound defensive trapping, earning a 46-27 victory.

Angie Herfel continued to find her stroke against LaFarge, leading the Trojan attack with 14 points and three steals. Emily Hanson turned in a solid all-around performance with six points, five rebounds, and three steals. Kloee Chamberlain was a ball hawk once again with nine rebounds, and sophomores Faye Brassington and Kayla Coy provided valuable hustle plays during key moments.

The Wildcats were led by talented freshman Maddy Benson, who contributed 14 points in the win.

As the North Crawford girls continue to pursue their first win of the season, this Trojan team now seems to be playing with more urgency and grit.

The next home game will feature the Trojans playing host to the Ithaca Bulldogs this Thursday, December 12, graduating players Emily Hanson and Hannah Kemp will be honored during Senior Night.
