Fresh market produce workshop is Feb. 17 at Ontario

UW Extension will conduct a workshop addressing several fresh market produce management related topics at the Ontario  Community Center on Feb. 17.  Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with presentations starting promptly at 9 a.m.   Presentations will wrap up at approximately 12:15 p.m.

This year’s workshop will feature the following topics and presenters:

• Dr. Russ Groves, UW Extension Vegetable Crop Entomologist, will present the latest information on vegetable crop seed treatments and their future vulnerability.

• Dr. Erin Silva, UW Extension Organic Production Specialist, will give an update on cover crop considerations for diversified vegetable farms.

• Dr. Amanda Gevens, UW Extension Vegetable Crop Pathologist, will present information on managing mildews in cucurbit (vine) crops, and an update on late blight considerations for Wisconsin growers.

• Dr. Christelle Guedot, UW Extension Fruit Crop Entomologist, will present: Pollinators: who are they and how can we promote healthy pollinators in our operations.

All presentations will address both organic and conventional management considerations.

There is no charge to attend the workshop. Each farm represented will receive a copy of the 2016 edition of UW Extension publication A3422, “Commercial Vegetable Production in Wisconsin.”  This workshop is underwritten by UW Extension Special Project Funds.
