A Hillsboro man pleaded not guilty Dec. 2 to a charge of child sexual assault.

Matthew Blaha, 23, is charged with first degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. He faces up to 60 years in the Wisconsin prison system if convicted.

A trial date was not set as Blaha’s attorney, Michael Covey, said a similar case was filed in Vernon County, and there might be a consolidation of the two cases.

Juneau County Circuit Court Judge Paul Curran said that consolidation might be possible and it might be the best interest of the alleged victim as she would only have to testify once. A status conference has been set for Feb. 3 for the two cases to track together.

Online court records show that Blaha is charged with first degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13, second degree sexual assault of a child, and two counts of child enticement in Vernon County.

A criminal complaint accuses Blaha of having sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl between July 11-13, 2014. Blaha is considered innocent until proven guilty.
