ARGYLE — One man involved in an early Sunday morning fight died, and the other is in the Lafayette County Jail pending charges.

Aaron D. Saalsaa, 27, Argyle, was taken by Argyle EMS to Monroe Clinic, then was transferred to a Madison hospital. Saalsaa died Monday evening, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.

Daniel D. Saalsaa, 29, Argyle, is being held in the Lafayette County Jail.

Daniel Saalsaa initially faced a tentative charge of felony battery before Aaron Saalsaa’s death.

The two were involved in a fight on North Broad Street in Argyle Sunday around 3:15 a.m., according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Aaron and Daniel Saalsaa are the brothers-in-law of Argyle Police Chief Hayley Saalsaa. According to the sheriff’s department, Hayley Saalsaa was called to the scene by family members and witnessed the fight.

Because Hayley Saalsaa works with the Sheriff’s Department, the department requested assistance from Monroe police in the investigation. The results of the investigation will be forwarded to Lafayette County District Attorney Kate Findley, said Sheriff Scott Pedley.

Aaron Saalsaa was due in Lafayette County Circuit Court today for trial on a disorderly conduct–domestic abuse charge, according to court records.
