WIAA D4 SOFTBALL: Iowa–Grant 6, Melrose–Mindoro 0

Pettit, Iowa–Grant blank Melrose–Mindoro to win D4 regional title

COBB — The Iowa–Grant softball team won its third regional title in five years with a 6–0 shutout of No. 3 seed Melrose–Mindoro last Thursday afternoon.

Brynne Pettit (10–6) struck out seven and walked two in a brilliant one-hit shutout and drove in a run with a fourth-inning sac fly to lead the No. 2 seeded Panthers to victory.

Carly Shores RBI ground out in the first gave IG an early 1–0 lead. Ava Klaas scored on a double steal in the third inning, and Shores scored on a throwing error to make it 3–0.

Freshman catcher Myah Batton added an RBI single in the sixth to complete the scoring.

It was the Panthers’ third regional title in the past sixth years (2021, 2022, 2026).

Iowa–Grant (20–8) traveled to No. 1 Fennimore (20–7) Tuesday for a D4 sectional semifinal and ended thes season with a 6–5 loss to the SWAL rival Golden Eagles .

Fennimore (21–7) went on to end its seson with a 3–0 sectional final loss to SWAL champion Mineral Point (26–4) in Thursday's WIAA Division 4 Riverdale Sectional Final.

Pajessa Baker hit a solo homer, Trinity Baker drove in two runs, and Quinn Hoeper (10–1) struck out 11 batters to lead the Panthers to a 10–3 regional semifinal win over Onalaska Luther last Tuesday.
