Accidents in Richland County over the Memorial holiday weekend resulted in three fatalities.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Angela Novotny, 37, of La Valle, was operating a motorcycle northbound on State Hwy. 58, just north of Cunningham Ridge Road, when she lost control and was ejected into the west side ditch. She was transported by Cazenovia EMS to the Reedsburg Medical Center and later by Med Flight to UW Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The Cazenovia Fire Department assisted at the scene.

At about 8 p.m. on Saturday, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a single vehicle crash on Excelsior Road, west of County Hwy. F. Upon arrival, First Responders saw a 2003 Ford Ranger down a steep embankment and had to use ropes and a basket to rescue the driver, Larry D. Holloway, 51, of Blue River. He was taken to the Boscobel hospital via ambulance, but succumbed to his injuries. According to the Sheriff’s Department, eyewitness accounts said that Holloway veered off the roadway after avoiding a collision with an oncoming vehicle. The report states that investigation revealed that Holloway was not wearing a seatbelt, and that speed and alcohol were contributing factors. Assisting at the scene were Blue River EMS, Boscobel EMS, and the Blue River Fire Department.

At about 3 a.m. on Sunday, Anthony A. Block, 33, of Cazenovia, was operating a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on County Hwy. II near Corwin Ridge Road, when the motorcycle struck a deer and Block was thrown from it.

The report states that he was not wearing a helmet and sustained injuries to his face, head and chest. Block was transported by Cazenovia EMS to The Richland Hospital and then by Med Flight to UW Hospital, where he passed away on Monday.

The report states that alcohol may have been a factor. The Cazenovia Fire Department assisted at the scene.
