Two arrested in Amish greenhouse burglaries

Two Hillpoint residents suspected of burglarizing Amish-owned greenhouses in Vernon County were arrested May 28 by Viola police, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua.

Taken into custody were Travis Chapman, 29, and Amber Mueller, 32.

Two greenhouse burglaries were reported in the county within an approximate two-hour span on the afternoon of May 28.

The first, on Sand Hill Road, was reported at 12:06 p.m., and the second, on Irish Ridge Road, was reported at 2:17 p.m.

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken in both burglaries.

After receiving the reports, the Sheriff’s Office sent information about the suspects to other law enforcement officers throughout Vernon County.

A Viola police officer located the vehicle Chapman and Mueller were in and apprehended both suspects.

According to a Sheriff’s Office press release,  the investigation will continue in concert with law enforcement officers in surrounding counties.

Both Chapman and Mueller were released on signature bonds from Vernon County Circuit Court May 29.
