UTV theft prevented by officer

DARLINGTON – One man is in custody and two charged with felony theft after a Darlington Police Officer hinders thieves from stealing a $7,000 UTV Tuesday morning.
Three masked men attempted to steal a Utility Terrain Vehicle from Mike’s Engine Works at 1:30 a.m. on May 23. The officer was checking the downtown area for suspicious activity when the theft was occurring. The men became startled and abandoned their truck, trailer and the stolen UTV and fled on foot.
Chad Knauer, 32 of Shullsburg, was taken into custody and is pending future court proceedings for felony theft. Scot Meneguin,  31, and Michael Thompson, 26, both of Hazel Green, have both been charged with felony theft for their involvement.
