Hometown Hog Roast returns; Southwest Music Fest now two days

PLATTEVILLE, July 15 — Southwest Wisconsin’s longest festival gets another day, the return of an event, and the addition of new events, but that isn’t the only event of the next two weekends.

The Platteville Regional Chamber Hometown Festival Week starts Friday with the Southwest Music Fest expanded to two days, beginning at The Annex with the Hometown Hog Roast at 5 p.m. Live music starts at 4 p.m., with Back Booth Alley at 7 p.m.

Day two of the Southwest Music Fest will be on Historic Second Street Saturday with the Cure Your Hangover Bloody Mary Tour at 11 a.m., Dustin Lloyd at 11 a.m., a bean bag tournament at noon, Logan Bollant at 1 p.m., and State of Static at 3 p.m. The main stage will feature Sonic Circus at 5:30 p.m. and the Pork Tornadoes at 9:30 p.m.

The Main Street Program Music in the Park Thursday, July 23 will feature the Ken Kilian Classic Big Band at 6 p.m.

Music will also be part of the Hometown Art & Craft Fair at City Park Saturday, July 25 with Lexi Healy, Roy Schroedl, Tristan Hirsch and Tessa Leibfried and Kevin Charles from 8 a.m. to noon.

Music will conclude Hometown Festival Week with the Southwest Christian Music Fest in City Park Sunday, July 26 at 1 p.m.

Not far from the Southwest Music Fest will be the sixth annual Southwest Wisconsin Auto Club Cruise In on Main on Main Street Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m.

A new event is the Clarity Clinic Pancake Breakfast at St. Mary Catholic Church Sunday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6–17.

A familiar returning event is the Southwest Health Berry Fest at Legion Field and in the Broske Center Tuesday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Also returning is the chamber’s Party in the Park and Salute to Volunteers in City Park Thursday, July 23 at 5 p.m.

Also returning is the Trinity Episcopal Church cod boil featuring homemade cherry pie at the church, 230 Market St., Friday, July 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children.

Scout Troop 82 will have its annual Fly-In Drive-In Breakfast at the Platteville Municipal Airport Sunday, July 25 from 7 a.m. to noon.

The Platteville Farmers Market will be held on Bonson Street and in City Park both Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

The Platteville Outdoor Art Scavenger Hunt will take place during Hometown Festival Week. The list of exhibits is available at the chamber office, 275 W. Business 151, or at www.platteville.com/visit/things-to-do.

Also taking place this weekend is the annual Rundell–Biddick reunion near Livingston (see Livingston News, page 3B) and the Southwest Wisconsin All-Terrain Club Shake the Shed near Rewey Saturday (see Rewey News, page 3B), with fireworks at dusk.

The Dickeyville–Paris Fire Department will hold its street dance at the fire station, 300 Splinter Ave., Saturday, with a hog roast at 4:30 p.m., and a visit from the University of Iowa AirCare III helicopter at 6:30 p.m.

The Potosi Community Band will perform in the Potosi High School Keith Livens Auditorium Sunday at 7 p.m.

UW–Platteville will present “Come from Away” in the Center for the Arts Brodbeck Concert Hall beginning Friday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m.
