The Second Harvest Foodbank’s mobile food pantry will come to the old Gays Mills Community Building at 212 Main Street on Wednesday, July 24. 

Food distribution is from 2 to 3 p.m. Frozen meats, fresh and canned vegetables, breads, staples such a rice or noodles, and fruits are regularly available. Each household receives between fifty and seventy pounds of food.

Patrons do not need to meet strict income guidelines or provide an ID but they must initial a sign-in sheet indicating that they are low income and in need of food assistance. They will be asked to provide the check-in volunteer with the number of people (including children and senior citizens) in the household, their zip code, and how they learned about the mobile food pantry. 

People should bring sturdy bags, boxes, or baskets to hold the food they receive. Volunteers will assist by carrying food to vehicles as needed. 

The food distribution site is looking for more volunteers. If you can assist by helping unload the truck, distribute food, or move food in grocery carts to and from patron’s vehicles, please contact Lorraine Fortney in advance or come to the Community Building at 208 Main Street in Gays Mills at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24. Volunteers cannot receive food from the mobile pantry regardless of their income.

In June, the Second Harvest Foodbank’s mobile food pantry in Gays Mills provided food to 112 households that included a total of 279 people.  Those households included 68 children and 83 seniors.
