Veterans Day programs planned

    With Veterans Day coming up on Tuesday, Nov. 11, the area communities are making plans to honor those who served and are serving our country with a variety of programs.
Black Hawk Schools
    The Black Hawk School District will be hosting a Veteran’s Day program on Tuesday, Nov 11. Local veterans and community members are welcome to attend.  There will be coffee, muffins, and juice available to all local veterans starting at 8:30 a.m., and the program will begin at 9:00 a.m. with musical performances and poetry readings by Black Hawk students. 
    The guest speaker this year is Michael Furgal, of VFW Post 2312. Furgal served in the Vietnam War with the United States Marine Corps.
Belmont Schools
    The Belmont High School will be hosting a Veterans Day program at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the high school gym. Belmont superintendent, Jim Siedenburg will speak during the program, the band and choir will perform and there will be a video tribute to local past and present service members.
Darlington Schools
    A Veterans Day program will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. in the Darlington High School gym. The school’s band and choirs will perform and representative Howard Marklein will be giving the address. A lunch will be offered to those who attend in the high school music room following the program.
    The Darlington Elementary/Middle School will also be holding a short Veterans Day program at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Nov. 11 that will last for about 30 minutes. Roger Zee will be speaking.
Shullsburg Schools
    Shullsburg High School will host a Veterans Program at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the old gym. Elementary students will sing and the school’s bands and choirs will also perform. Veteran David Weiskircher will be speaking during this year’s program. A free lunch will be provided to veterans following the program.
