Washington D.C. 42712 Trent laying wreath 148

In April, the seventh grade class from St. Mary School in Platteville traveled to Gettysburg, Pa., Washington, D.C. and Arlington, Va., as part of a six-bus tour. The St. Mary Safety Patrol and AAA sponsored the trip. The seventh grade class held a chili supper at the end of January to raise money for the trip. The students and two chaperones began the experience by touring the Gettysburg battlefield, cemetery and grounds, then went to Washington, where they toured Mount Vernon, the U.S. Capitol, the monuments, the White House, the new World War II Monument and the new Pentagon Memorial. The trip concluded with a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Trent Murphy (left), a St. Mary’s seventh grade student, along with two students from a La Crosse school, was selected to lay the wreath.
