Woman believed drowned off Wyalusing Beach

A 29-year-old woman from the Chicago area is believed to have drowned off Wyalusing Beach.

A search of the water was conducted after the report of the missing woman but did not find the body, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. The search is scheduled to resume tomorrow morning.

The woman was camping with a group of friends camping at the beach and was in the water when she went missing, according to the Sheriff’s Office. She was reported missing at about 2:48 a.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Searchers for the body included Wyalusing State Park rangers; firefighters from Bagley, Bloomington, Blue River, Boscobel, Cassville, Glen Haven, Prairie du Chien and Marquette and Garnavillo, Iowa; West Grant and Lancaster EMS; the Southwest Technical Rescue Team; Grant County Emergency Management; the Clayton County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office; and the Wisconsin and Iowa departments of natural resources.

The woman is not being identified pending notification of family.
