A 59-year-old rural Viroqua man was injured Feb.  24 in a logging accident in Bergen township.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, Stanley Niemyjski was operating a power saw when it appears he was struck by a piece of the tree which he was cutting.

The accident occurred on private property off Runningen Lane east of Stoddard. Niemyjski was in an area of steep terrain in a valley about one-hald mile from roadway access.

Although his injuries were serious, he remained conscious throughout the rescue, and was transported to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse by Tri-State Ambulance.

Assisting at the scene were the Stoddard-Bergen Volunteer Fire Department and the Genoa-Harmony Fire Department.
