Students of the two second grade classes at Darlington Elementary/Middle School (DEMS) taught by Stephanie Acherman and Kim Crist spent some time in early November making some Thanksgiving cards that will be distributed to veterans at the VA hospital in Middleton this Thanksgiving.

Dan O’Brien and Frank Bahowick, of Darlington’s American Legion Post 214 collected the cards and stated that there were approximately 100 total cards that will be given to the veterans during this year’s holiday.

Selena Switzki and Brady McQuaid of Mrs. Acherman’s class and Eli Crist of Mrs. Crist’s class along with DEMS principal Michelle Savatski presented the cards to O’Brien and Bahowick on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

This is the fourth year that DEMS has participated in making Thanksgiving cards for the VA hospital and Darlington is the only school in the state that sends cards for this particular holiday.

“It just makes such a big difference to the veterans receiving the cards,” said O’Brien.
