National and state officials of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at a dinner at Holiday Gardens in Potosi Thursday.

The dinner will include VFW Commander-in-Chief Bill Thien, VFW Ladies Auxiliary National president Armithea “Sissy” Borel, and state VFW Commander Renee Simpson.

Borel is making her official visit as president to Wiscosnin, according to Dorothy Genthe of Platteville, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Department of Wisconsin president this year.

The VFW is an organization of veterans who served during wars overseas, including, most recently, in Iraq and Afghanistan. VFW auxiliaries are made up of “wives, sisters, mothers, daughters, granddaughters, grandmothers” of VFW members, said Genthe. Only about one-third of VFW posts have auxiliaries.
