Charles R. “Charlie” Hermanson, age 79 of Darlington, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington. He was born Jan. 31, 1938 in Wiota the son of Ole Milton and Edna (Christianson) Hermanson. Charlie graduated from Argyle High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Betty J. Hale on Jan. 23, 1960 at Fayette United Methodist Church.  After graduation Charlie farmed and worked at a cheese plant until 1958.  He then began working at the GM Plant in Janesville.  Charlie and Betty farmed in the Wiota area from 1964 until 1968 when they moved to the Fayette area and farmed until retiring into the city of Darlington in 2011.
Charlie is survived by three children: Jim (Jean) Hermanson of Janesville, Bob Hermanson of Darlington, and Sheri (Joel Ewers) Hermanson of Argyle; seven grandchildren: Tracy James (Molly) Hermanson, Taryn Hermanson, Corey, Chayse and Cashton Hermanson, Charlene and Jadon Hermanson; One brother: Carrol (Judy) Hermanson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Betty in 2016; one son: Charles Allen Hermanson; one daughter: Connie Marie Hermanson; three brothers: Harold, Milton “Buddy”, Gaylord “John” Hermanson; and two sisters: Ruth Saunders and Judith Butler.
Charlie was a member of Apple Grove Lutheran Church in rural Argyle where he served on its Church Council.  He also served on the Fayette Township Board for 28 years.  Charlie had many hobbies such as, deer hunting, snowmobiling, for which he was also a safety instructor, a 4-H Leader, an avid reader of Aerospace and History publications, enjoyed playing cards with his card club friends, a Brewers, Packers and Badgers fan and a Cubs fan if they weren’t playing the Brewers.  Charlie was active playing slow pitch softball for Argyle and Wiota slow pitch teams for a number of years and in later years, enjoyed researching the Hermanson family history.  He loved farming with his wife and his children and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren creating memories that will last a lifetime. Charlie will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Friday Dec. 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Apple Grove Lutheran Church (14501 Apple Grove Church Road – Argyle Township) with Reverend Daniel L.  Bohlman officiating. Burial will be at Apple Grove Church Cemetery.  A visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main Street, Darlington) and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church on Friday.   Online condolences may be expressed to the family at ericksonfuneralhome.com.
