Edward “Bud” Hooker, age 83 years, of Hillsboro, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at his home in Hillsboro, Wisconsin.

He was born on Jan. 5, 1931 to Edward and Mary (Snorek) Hooker.  In 1948, Bud took over the family farm in Greenwood Township and farmed with his parents and sister, Marie until 1971.

In 1971, Bud and Bonnie Walter were married and they continued the farming operation with a lot of hard work.  They milked cows, raised chickens, pigs and young cattle.  They always had a big garden and grew poppy seed, potatoes, raspberries, blackberries, and popcorn.

Also in 1953, Bud and his father, Ed, worked and took care of the Greenwood Telephone Co.; it went all the way to Yuba.  When a storm came up or tree fell, they would fix it right away.  The nine patrons would keep them busy, as that is how the news traveled.  That was the time of the party line, the good old times.

Starting in the spring of 1960, when the cows produced more milk, Bud would drive the second can milk truck a few weeks for Richard Janousek to help him out.

Bud also enjoyed working in the woods, other than farming that was his biggest job.  He always helped his family, friends and neighbors.  Following retirement, Bud and Bonnie moved into Hillsboro.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; twin sister, Marie Hooker; brother, Elgin Hooker; special nieces, Shirley Richardson and June Hooker; seven nieces and nephews and their families, further survived by a sister-in-law, Edith Burkhalter; and brothers-in-law, Leroy Walter, Byron Walter and Donald Vodak.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin, Donald and William Hooker; and sister, Bessie Wopat.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with Rev. Isaac Fleming officiating.  Burial will be in the Czech’s National Cemetery near Yuba.  Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.  For online information go to www.pichafuneralhomes.com
