Ernest G. Salathe, 82, of Beloit, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 in his home. He was born on April 6, 1934 in Monroe, the son of Fred and Lydia (Weidman) Salathe. Ernest was a 1952 graduate of Darlington High School. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army. Ernest married Darlene Cornwell on June 28, 1957 in Darlington.
Ernest was employed by Southwestern Bell/AT&T as a lineman, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed watching Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger football games and was competitive in all games whether it was darts or a family board game. Ernest exercised everyday, liked to golf, and loved being with family at gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his three children, Susan Salathe of Bettendorf, Iowa, Diana Salathe-Braden, and David (Charla) Salathe both of Beloit; former wife and friend, Darlene Salathe of Beloit; four grandchildren, Tanya Sallis (Demond) of Madison, Amber (Brian) Swanson of Milwaukee, Kim (Joe) Trammell of Morgan Hills, Calif., and Anthony Salathe of Kansas City, Mo.; four great grandchildren, Phoenix Sallis, Amelia Trammell, Ava Swanson, and Josie Trammell; two siblings, Walter Salathe of Durand, Ill. and Mary (Jerry) Leahy of Darlington; sister-in-law, Grace Salathe of Darlington; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Harry; and sister-in-law, Gaye.
Visitation was from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 in the Daley Murphy Wisch and Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service with Pastor David Meding officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
