Jonathan M. Austin, age 49 of Darlington passed away unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 1, 2016 due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was born July 27, 1966 in Platteville the son of Robert and Jean (Nodolf) Austin. Jon graduated from Darlington High School in 1984 and later from MATC in Madison where he was certified in carpentry. He grew up in rural Darlington. Following his graduation from MATC he moved to New Glarus where he lived for 12 years. In June of 2012 he returned to Darlington where he has resided since. Jon worked for Lake Country Construction Company in Verona.
Jon is survived by his daughter Madeline Austin and her mother Inga Marty of New Glarus; his parents: Robert (Jean) Austin of rural Darlington; three brothers: Dan Austin of rural Darlington, Bill Austin of Mineral Point and David (Mindy) Austin of Ankeny, Iowa; and three sisters: Debbie Austin of Urbandale, Iowa, Bobbi Jo (John) Rury of Mineral Point and Kristi (Bret) Gempler of Galena, Ill.
Jon was a dedicated and loving father who always looked forward to attending all of Maddy’s activities from ice skating to swimming and dance to taking her to the family farm. He was a member of the Carpenters Union and took great pride in his work. Jon also enjoyed spending time with his pets. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A funeral service was held Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church (15691 County Road K, Darlington) with Pastor Nick J. McElrath and Rev. Joseph Corbin co-officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Platteville. A visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main Street, Darlington).
