Oliver W. Jacobson, age 81 of rural Darlington, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at Monroe Clinic Hospice Home in Monroe. He was born Sept. 26, 1935 in Green County, the son of Clarence and Nellie (Kammerude) Jacobson. Oliver was united in marriage to Kay L. Thompson on Nov. 10, 1955 at Holy Rosary Parsonage in Darlington. He grew up in rural Hollandale area and farmed with his father until moving to Fayette Township in 1965.
Oliver is survived by his four children: Bill (Rita) Jacobson of Monroe, LuAnn (Pat) Donahoe of Darlington, Sandy (Trent) Sefton of Machesney Park, Ill., and Joel (Sheila) Jacobson of Johnsburg, Ill.; 14 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother: Carroll (Mary) Jacobson of Darlington; two sisters-in-law: Joann Kammerude of Blanchardville and Delores Jacobson of Darlington; one brother-in-law: David Thompson of Dodgeville; one aunt: Violet Tessendorf of Warren, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Kay on July 20, 2009; one daughter: Nancy Kay Jacobson in infancy; three sisters: Elizabeth Grob, Noda Schwartz, and Marjorie Olson; and two brothers: Howard Jacobson and Leland “Dodie” Kammerude.
Oliver was a member of St. Michael’s Yellowstone Catholic Church in rural Blanchardville and Fayette Sno-Goers. He was the sexton for St. Michael’s Yellowstone Cemetery for many years. Oliver was an active member of the Fayette community and had many close friends that he would always lend a helping hand to. He was a true collector at heart and enjoyed buying and selling antique toys and furniture. Oliver cherished the time he spent with his family creating memories that they will remember forever. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A Time of Family Remembrance was held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet Street, Darlington) where Rev. Thomas E. Gillespie of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in rural Blanchardville officiated. Burial was in St. Michael’s Yellowstone Cemetery in rural Blanchardville. A visitation was held Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main Street, Darlington) where a rosary was prayed at 4:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.
