PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK (Jan. 25-31)

BOYS BASKETBALL – Co-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Avery Wilborn, sr., G (Belmont) – sank five 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 23 points in leading Belmont over Argyle, 48-37, for its first victory of the season during the annual Six Rivers Boys Basketball Crossover Challenge in Belmont last Friday. The win halted the Braves' 16-game slide to start the season and ended a 19-game overall losing streak, while aiding the West's 4-3 victory over the East in the inter-conference showdowns.

Hunter Leibfried, jr., G (Potosi) – scored a team-high 18 points in Potosi’s 60-44 win over Cassville last Tuesday then and followed up with 20 points and 13 rebounds in a 77-63 loss to Galena in last Saturday’s Star Restaurant/Italian Kitchen Shootout at the University of Dubuque. He also had eight points, seven rebounds and three assists in Friday’s 60-46 loss to Barneveld on Friday night.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL - PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ashley Flesch, sr., G (Potosi) – scored eight of her season-high 31 points in the second overtime to lift Potosi to a crucial 76-66 double overtime victory at Six Rivers West-leading Belmont last Thursday night. Flesch also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. On Monday Flesch scored 10 points and was one of five players to score in double figures as the Chieftains (10-4, 4-1) grabbed a share of first place with a 70-55 victory at Benton/Shullsburg.

 

SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

Ryan Heberlein, jr., (Lancaster) – turned in a pair of individual second-place finishes last Tuesday’s Southern Lakes Conference triple dual at Lake Genenva Badger to help the Platteville/Lancaster boys’ swim team earn a split defeating Delavan-Darien 114-56, and losing to the host Badger co-op, 97-73. Heberlein finished second in the 50 freestyle (:24.78) and the 100 freestyle (:54.11). He also swam on the first-place 400 freestyle relay and the second-place 200 freestyle relay.

 

TEAMS OF THE WEEK

Lancaster Wrestling Team – The Arrows clinch an outright Southwest Wisconsin Conference dual-meet title with a 38-28 win over River Valley last Thursday night. The Flying Arrows finished with a conference dual-meet record of 5-0.

Iowa-Grant Wrestling Team – The Panthers clinched the outright Southwestern Wisconsin Activities League (SWAL) regular season title with back-to-back dominating wins over Boscobel, 76-6, last Thursday, and Darlington, 80-0, last Friday. I-G finished the regular season 9-0 overall and 6-0 in conference dual meets. The Panthers enter this Saturday’s SWC-SWAL Clash conference tournament as a favorite, along with Lancaster and Mineral Point, to win the team title.
