Junior Taylor Langmeier and first-place River Ridge will travel to second-place Benton Tuesday night to battle for this year's Six Rivers West conference title.

GAME OF THE WEEK (Oct. 5–11)

PREP VOLLEYBALL: River Ridge (18–0, 9–0 SRW, Div. 4 #3) at Benton (20–2, 10–1 SRW, Div. 4 #9), Tuesday, Oct. 11, 7:15 p.m.

     The second-place Benton Zephyrs (ranked ninth in Divison 4) will host the unbeaten River Ridge Timberwolves in a key Six Rivers West showdown Tuesday night with conference championship implications on the line in this week’s McDonald’s SWnews4U.com Game of the Week.

     The Timberwolves, ranked third in Division 4, can clinch the outright SRW title with a win over Belmont Thursday and a win Tuesday at Benton. The Zephyrs can earn a share of this year’s conference title with a win.

     River Ridge won the first and only meeting between the teams this year on Sept. 12 in a five-set back and forth affair 25–22, 22–25, 25–23, 18–25, 15–8. Sophomore Skylar White (17 kills, 3 blocks) and junior Taylor Langmeier (15 kills, 3 blocks) combined for 32 kills and five blocks in the first meeting. Senior Emma Lawrence floored a match high 27 kills and five blocks and junior Sophie Dougherty added 15 kills in the to lead Benton in the loss. The Zephyrs defeated River Ridge twice a year ago to win the 2016 Six Rivers West title.

 

Other key area volleyball games this week:

Prairie du Chien (8–14, 2–5 SWC) at Platteville (20–8, 7–0 SWC), Thursday, Oct. 5, 7:15 p.m.

     The Hillmen can claim at least a share of the SWC title with a win over Prairie du Chien tonight. Platteville swept the first meeting between the two schools 25–18, 25–12, 25–10 on Sept. 19.

 

Darlington (11–6–1, 7–2 SWAL) at Southwestern (15–4, 7–2 SWAL), Tuesday, Oct. 10, 7:15 p.m.

     The Wildcats hosts the Redbirds Tuesday in a battle for second place in the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League. Darlington swept the first meeting between the two teams 25–21, 27–25, 25–11 on Sept. 19.

 

 

PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Albany Baertsch Farm Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 7, 9 a.m.,

     Albany will host 31 teams on Saturday at Baertsch Farms for the largest area cross country meet this weekend.

     Participating teams include: Albany, Belleville, Beloit Turner, Brodhead, Clinton, Edgerton, Evansville, Fall River, Holy Family, Home School Eagles, Iowa–Grant, Janesville Parker, Lancaster, Madison Country Day, Marshall, Milton, Monona Grove, Monroe, Mount Horeb, New Glarus, Oregon, Pardeeville, Parkview, Pecatonica, Poynette, Rio, Shullsburg, St. Ambrose Academy, Stoughton, Tri-State Home School and Wisconsin Heights.

 

 

PREP BOYS SOCCER: Platteville/Lancaster (5–6–2, 3–0–1 SWC) at Dodgeville/Mineral Point (4–4–2, 4–0 SWC), Saturday, Oct. 7, 8 a.m.

     The Hillmen will travel to Dodgeville Saturday morning for a key makeup game in the race for this year’s SWC title. The original game was postponed last Tuesday when one of the three referees failed to show up for the scheduled game. Platteville/Lancaster improved to 3–0–1 with a 1–0 victory over Prairie du Chien on freshman Isaac Oyen’s goal last Thursday afternoon. Dodge/Point remained perfect in SWC play at 4–0 with a 3–0 shutout of visiting Richland Center on Tuesday. The two teams will meet again at Platteville High School on Thursday, Oct. 12 in the SWC season finale for both teams.
