CUBA CITY — For the second season in a row, the Cuba City boys’ and girls’ teams were crowned champions at the SWAL Track and Field Meet.

The Cubans won seven individual events and placed competitors in 16 of the 18 events — including multi-placewinners in eight events — to earn the boys’ title with 161 points, finishing well ahead runner-up Darlington (127).

The Lady Cubans won five events and also placed competitors in 16 events with multi-placewinners in eight events to capture the girls’ title with 139 points, earning the crown by 15 points ahead of the runner-up Redbirds (124).

Juniors Mason Leeser and Alison Daugherty each claimed four conference titles for the Cubans during Monday’s meet held at Cuba City High School, while Kopp set a new conference record in the boys’ discus and won three titles on the day.

Leeser won the 200-meter (23.66) and 400-meter (52.41) dashes and added a title in the long jump (20’7”), while also teaming with Kopp, senior Chayse Barth and junior Devon Hill to win the 400-meter relay in 45.6 second.

Kopp establish a new conference standard in the discus by nearly nine feet with his winning toss of 173’8” while also repeating as champion in the shot put (49’9.5”) and adding a fourth-place finish in the 100 (11.97).

Junior Logan Gallagher topped teammate and defending conference champion Carter Niles to win the pole vault with a height o 11’6”. Niles was second at 11’3”. Sophomore Jordan Gile won the boys’ triple jump with a leap of 37’1”.

Sophomore Evan Matthews was second in the 800 (2:09.70) and senior Parker Johnson was second in the 110 high hurdles (18.39) and third in the 300 hurdles (45.00) for the Cubans, who also earned the boys’ team title at last Thursday’s Sparky Reynolds Invitational at Boscobel.

The Cubans 3,200 relay team of Matthews, Gile, senior Drew Robson and freshman Noah Wood was second in 8:35.73 and the 1,600 relay team of Niles, Johnson, Gile and Matthews was third in 3:48.9.

Alison Daugherty, who was named the Female Athlete of the Meet at the Sparky Reynolds Invite, had another impressive showing for Cuba City on Monday, winning SWAL titles in the long jump (16’7”), triple jump (33’10”), 100 dash (13.49) and 400 relay (52.89) along with fellow juniors Monica Schmidt and Olivia Brimeyer and sophomore Carina Pitzen.

Senior Haylee Albert claimed the team’s other title with a first-place finish in the discus (101’2”). She also was second in the shot put (33’6.75”).

Schmidt placed second in the pole vault (8’6”) and fifth in the discus (87’9”), while other seconds went to junior Grace Cummins in the high jump (5’0”), sophomore Lily Fick in the discus (93’10”) and freshman Chloe LaRue in the 100 hurdles (18.60).

Southwestern finished seventh in both the boys’ and girls’ meets with junior Justin Reuter accounting for all nine of the Wildcats’ points after finishing second in the high jump (4’8”) and sixth in the 100 (12.44) and freshman Hannah Pergande scoring all three of the Lady Cats’ points with a fifth-place in the 100 hurdles (19.02) and a sixth in the 400 (1:06.35).

The Cubans and Wildcats will participate in the WIAA Division 3 regional meet at Darlington High School on Monday, May 23, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
