HILLSBORO — After a pair of cancellations, the Hillsboro baseball team opened the season with 9–3 Scenic Bluffs Conference loss to Necedah Thursday afternoon.

Necedah’s Noah Herried dominated the Tigers both at the plate and on the mound. Herried went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. He also struck out six Tigers and allowed just three runs on seven hits in the complete game victory.

Herried’s RBI single broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning. Miles Saylor added a two-run bloop single to left to make it 3–0.

The Tigers battled back in the bottom of the third, when Tyler and Tommy Crandall reached on back-to-back hits and both scored on fellow senior Hunter Stanek’s two-run double.

Necedah added to its lead with two runs in the top of the fifth on Noah Waltemath’s two-run single to center off Hillsboro starter Tommy Crandall.

Sophomore James Anderson’s sac fly pulled Hillsboro within 5–3 in the bottom of the fifth.

Herried delivered an RBI double in the sixth and Noah Boissonneault’s RBI ground out increased Necedah’s advantage to 7–3.

Tommy Crandall (0–1) took the loss for Hillsboro, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks in 41/3 innings. He struck out seven and aided his own cause by going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scores.

Ethan Thorson and Peyton Miller each had singles in the loss.

The Tigers original season-opener against New Lisbon was twice rained out last Monday and Tuesday will be made up at a later date. Hillsboro’s SBC game at Bangor was postponed Monday and rescheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers will return to action Thursday at Cashton (0–0) before traveling to Riverdale on Saturday and hosting Brookwood (1–0, 1–0 SBC) on Monday.
