LA CROSSE — The Hillsboro wrestling team sent five wrestlers to the 54-team Bi-State Classic that was held Monday and Tuesday in La Crosse.

None of the Tigers placed at this week’s two-day event, but Jacob Urban and Sebastion Miller each earned a victory.

Urban (6–8) pinned Holmen’s Nathan Thesing in 1:46 of his 152-pound first-round match, but was eliminated with back-to-back losses to South Saint Paul’s Ryan Duffy and Mauston’s Jacob Schiller.

Miller (6–7) went 2–2 at 170 pounds. After a first-round bye, he was pinned by De Soto’s Lance Buckles.

Miller bounced back by pinning La Crosse Central’s Brandyn Nelson in 49 seconds of a consolation match, before being eliminated with a 15–10 loss to Dodgeville’s Jack Schickel.

Dylan Thew (1–3) earned a bye and picked up a forfeit win, but went 0–2 on the mat at 285 pounds.

Nolan Hammer (1–4) went 0–2 at 160 pounds, while Jacob Benish (4–7) went 0–2 at 220 pounds.

Hillsboro will return to action next Thursday with a Scenic Bluffs dual at home against Necedah. The Tigers will then travel to the Lee Griffin Kickapoo Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Hillsboro scored 10 team points in the tournament and finished 17th out of 17 teams in Division 3.

The tournament was not over as of press time on Tuesday, but Stratford was well on its way to winning the Division 3 team title.

Iowa–Grant/Highland, Lancaster and Riverdale were all in the running for second place.
