    DARLINGTON – The Darlington Redbirds boys’ golf team competed in three SWAL meets over the past week and carded some consistent scores as just three strokes separated their final team score in those three matches.
    The Redbirds placed sixth overall with a score of 189 at the Barneveld SWAL Meet held at the Deer Valley Golf Course on Monday, April 22, and then finished fifth with a 186 at the Mineral Point SWAL Meet at Dodge-Point Country Club on Thursday, April 25.
    Finally, at Cole Acres, on Monday, April 29, the ‘Birds shot a 187 as a team to place sixth again at the Cuba City SWAL Meet.
    With four matches in the books, the Redbirds sit sixth overall in the conference with 14 points.
    Cuba City won Monday’s match on their home course to leap into the SWAL lead with 28 points. Argyle/Pecatonica slipped out of first-place after placing fourth at Monday’s meet and are now tied with Southwestern in second-place with 26 points.
    Alex Schulte led Darlington at all three meets, carding a 41 at Barneveld, a 40 at Mineral Point and a 42 at Cuba City.
    A.J. Brandt was second for the Redbirds with a 43 at Barneveld and back-to-back 46s, while Chase Tuescher was third on the team at Barneveld (48) and Mineral Point (47) and fourth at Cuba City (52).
    Steven Cotter was third for the ‘Birds at Monday’s meet (47), and he was fourth at Mineral Point (53), while Andrew Jacobson was fourth for the team at Barneveld (55) on the previous Monday.
    The Redbirds also competed in their first 18-hole tournament during their busy week on the course, finishing in a tie for 13th-place at the 20-team River Valley Invitational held at the par 72 House on the Rock Resort on Saturday, April 27.
    Schulte (87) and Brandt (89) each broke 90 for the ‘Birds, while Cotter fired a 97 and Kevin Fenner completed the team scoring with a 119.
    Next up, Darlington will compete at the Argyle SWAL Meet at Yellowstone Golf Course on Thursday, May 2, at 4 p.m., and the Redbirds will tee it up at the Southwestern SWAL Meet in Galena on Monday, May 6, also at 4 p.m.
