LA CROSSE — Vinny Anderson turned in perhaps the best tournament of his prep wrestling career this past week at the 31st Annual Bi-State Classic.
The Platteville senior went 5–2 and placed fifth out of 43 wrestlers at 182 pounds.
He reached the semifinals with a bye, two decisions and a pin, before dropping back-to-back matches. But he rebounded with a 5–3 sudden death victory over Monroe’s Dustin Burkhalter in the fifth-place match.
Anderson improved to 12–6 on the season with his two-day showing.
First-year Belmont/Platteville coach Andrew Campbell took only five wrestlers to the prestigious tournament opting to save his underclassmen for varsity reserve tournaments later in the season.
Belmont junior Lucas Stoney (16–8) went 5–3 and placed eight out of 42 wrestlers and 220 pounds.
Junior John Hentrich went 1–2 and did not place at 138 pounds.
Peter Holloway went 0–2 at 145, while Austin Loeffelholz went 1–2 at 160.
The Braves now have two weeks off before they return to action Jan. 10 with an SWC dual at River Valley.
Belmont/Platteville will then host its own dual meet tournament on Jan. 12 at Belmont High School.
