First rain and cold weather, now darkness
baseball
Lancaster second baseman Alex Benson tries to put the tag on a Platteville runner during last Tuesday night's game. After the game went into the tenth inning still tied at 3-3, it was called on account of darkness and will be resumed next Tuesday at Platteville.

After having their game last Tuesday night called on account of darkness, the Lancaster varsity baseball team got it’s second complete game in this past Monday at River Valley.

With a 6-3 loss to the host Blackhawks, coach Tony Leibfried’s squad dropped to 0-1 in SWC play and 0-2 overall, with one game remaining in limbo.

It was last Tuesday night that neighboring Platteville visited the Flying Arrows, and when the game went into extra innings, it was called on account of darkness with a 3-3 tie.

After trailing the Hillmen 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore Jake Kruser and senior Alex Benson tie the game up when they scored on a throwing error from shortstop to first base.

Neither team was able to plate a run in the eighth or ninth innings before darkness brought and end to the game.

That game will be resumed next Tuesday when the Arrows travel to Platteville.

This past Monday night, the Arrows gave up eight hits to the host Blackhawks, who handed Lancaster a 6-3 loss.

Lancaster had just four hits of their own, including a 2-for-3 performance from sophomore Brett Snider, and a two-run homer by senior Winston Zenz in the fourth inning.

Snider started the game on the mound, but no pitching stats were made available before press time.

Following this past Tuesday night’s game at Prairie du Chien, the Flying Arrows will host Dodgeville on Thursday, then Richland Center on Friday. On Saturday they will travel to Boscobel for non-conference double header.
